a summer's longing
the one i love, she is my rising sun
i so declare she is not of this earth
for when she’s near, i plainly come undone
and feel as though i’d seen a cherub’s birth
like mourning doves, it seems, the time flies past
and over weeks i find my longing dire
for ev’ry minute this summer does last
the embers of my heart begin to fire
but hope rings true throughout the lonely days
through gloom and grief, i recollect my dear
i write to her, and sing to her my praise
and in reply, she tells me not to fear
i know my darling, she will soon return
the court of sorrow, it will then adjourn
