Empty Gold
You said you liked the jewels around my neck
All you wanted was material things
That is when I should have asked for the check
You played me like little violin strings
Did you love me or did you love my gold
We could’ve been romantic poetry
Except I'm stuck here writing this love cold
You just drifted in to buy groceries
When you left it helped my realize why
Why all I owned never felt close to me
And I began to try and detoxify
All this time I needed to really see
All around me I could see empty gold
All around me I could see empty gold

My goal was to have the reader hopefully relate to the poem because it's about a relationship where one person only likes the other person for their possesions which helps them to realize how hollow and meaningless these expensive things truly are.
