Favorite Quote:
"Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality." -T.S. Eliot

It starts with a sinking deep in your chest
A loss of breath, It’s tearing you apart
its not even that you were feeling stressed
First instinct is immediately dart

The black closes in blurring your vision
Your heart is beating a mile a minute
At this point you must make a decision
Feels like impending doom is absolute

The real question is, do you fight or fly?
But what do you fight when nothing is there?
And how do you fly from yourself, even try?
So what is left to do but to despair?

The panic consumes everything you are
Leaves you with an unhealable ugly scar

The author's comments:

I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety and I  wrote this poem directly after having a panic attack as an escape from my emotions.  I think it rings true and captures what panic is like.  Sharing it in class, a number of people were able to relate and said the poem helped them, so I figured I could help even more people if my poem was published.
