Lord of the Trees
The sky above speared through by tow’ring trees,
Each one in shades of dark-hued emerald dressed.
The tallest top reigns over verdant seas –
A proud majestic hemlock of the west.
What stories has this evergreen to tell
With roots so firmly anchored underground?
This king of woods serenity compels,
Its ancient trunk by needled branches crowned.
Through think dense canopy pale sunlight slants,
Illuminating springtime greenery.
Surrounded by the smaller shrubs and plants,
The hemlock dominates the scenery.
My wide-eyed stare this lordly monarch draws
And I gaze up in silent wond’ring awe.
