If I Fall
Verse:
The girl slips away
Sand through my fingers
As my memories fade
The feeling lingers
I hide in the shade
Lost in the silence
A slow frozen decay
Hides truth in darkness
Pre-Chorus:
“Are you afraid of fire?
’Cause I am,” she said
A controlling power
Of a world figurehead
Chorus:
Are we to fear at all?
The time's now to end it all
I miss the touch of her
The smell and the kiss of air
A light billowing wind
Just enough to cast away the sin
She lived the perfect lie
Thrust back the line into my eye
Verse:
The woman hides her face
Behind her fingers
As her memories derange
We become strangers
We’re lost in the shadow
Hide from the silence
You say, “We’ll be fine tomorrow”
But hours pass by in defiance
Pre-Chorus:
“Are you afraid of me?
There’s nothing you can do,” she said
“You can’t hide; I see,
I see everything,” she said
Chorus:

I was inspired by the loss of a close family member... the feeling of separation and inability were prevalent during the penning of this poem
