The Color of Clouds
Have you seen the sky tonight
Mere echoes of wonderful
An empty meadow to the right
With valley air so cool
Makes me wish I were a kid again
Hearing red and orange and blue and pink
Elementary days till turning ten
When I was still learning to blink
Don't you know sometimes after dark
That you can see the red midnight
Have you even tried to notice
The color of clouds tonight
Don't you wonder when the darkness comes
Where the sun is when it goes away
It's as simple as the complexity of life
The color of the clouds today
People call me the strange girl
It's just that their privilege exceeds mine
They've seen everything in their world
And heard every existent rhyme
But I'd never seen the sun before
And I'm impressed by the sound of tears
For once, I could open my own door
And for once, I could have no fears
I can't for the life of me figure out
Why they stare at me when I cry
I know that everyone has noticed
That I've seen the colors in my eyes
It takes me back to when I was full of dark
The time before I did appreciate
The value of the little things
Like the color of the clouds today
