Corny Love Song for the World
I think I’m in love.
Think I’m in love with it all.
With the moon floating dreamily up in the sky
With the hightops I’ve had since the dawn of time
With people who sing on the corners of streets
With a whole day free to do nothing but read
I’m stumbling, tripping, and falling
Laughing and singing and calling
Out with joy to the birds in the sky above
With all of my soul and my body and brain
In spite of the wind and the snow and the rain
I think that I’m falling in love.
Think I’m in love with that chill Saturday feel.
With people who use the phrase, “Keepin’ it real.”
With leaving the house for a little run
And not coming back ‘til an hour is gone.
With the way peanut butter looks when you first open the jar
With cranking Bob Dylan as I drive in the car.
Wanna dance, wanna spin, wanna fly,
Wanna laugh wanna breathe, wanna cry.
Don’t want to miss a thing, can’t get enough
And with all of my soul and my body and brain
In spite of the wind and the snow and the rain
I think that I’m falling in love.
I know I’m in love with the smell of a bonfire
With the poor soul whose shoes hang from the telephone wire
And the way a guitar string cuts into your hand
With letting myself be buried in sand
With opening windows and singing along
With weird dreams, tight-knit teams, and hearing my favorite song
I’m in love with all that I’m seeing.
I love waking and sleeping and being.
Because of the good and in spite of the bad
With all of my soul and my body and brain
In the midst of the wind and the snow and the rain
I think that I’m falling in love.
Say what you want, I’m in love with Sunday night
And the look of a farmhouse in early evening light
With staying up late just talking about nothing
With the awkward moment in a song when the lines don’t rhyme
I love the way he looks when he’s talking to me
And the tones of a banjo and the smell of the sea
I love music and good food and family
My friends, God above, nature’s beauty
I love how that line sounded corny.
So with all of my soul and my body and brain,
Because of the wind and the snow and the rain
I know that I’ve fallen in love.
