Loving Me
I can’t help but smile at you
When you’re walking my direction
Or laugh when your arm’s around me
Solely for my protection
You are the first to defend me
And I know that you are not pretending
But at times I become over it
And I just want you to quit
Because I am not a child anymore
I have strength and I can’t wait
For you to realize and see with your own eyes
I am not the person I used to be
As when you first started loving me
You never listen, or heed my warnings
I don’t want you to have to be in mourning
If I were to leave you here
While wiping softly at a tear
Let’s just say there are things you don’t understand
I can’t expect you to understand
I can take care of myself
I know fully well the risks
As I am not a child anymore
I have grown in more ways than one
I know the ways of the world by now
It’s not gonna break me, I don’t know how
But I do know I’m not how I used to be
As when you first started loving me
I still want you to hold me tight
And never, ever seem to let go
I just need some more room to breathe
To take in all my rainbows
I just want you to understand
I just need you to understand
I’m not a child anymore
I have strength, I can’t wait, for you to see, this is me
So heed my warning, you don’t have to be in mourning
Or shed a single tear, I don’t have to walk away from here
I have strength, I can’t wait, for you to see, this is me
So heed my warning, you don’t have to be in mourning
Or shed a single tear, I don’t have to walk away from here
I just need you to understand
I’m not a child anymore
Because the last thing I want you to see
Is that you can stop loving me
