“I’ve never wanted to write the kind of lyrics that forward plot. I wanted them to take us into what cannot be said and what can only be felt.” -Steven Sater

swallow your fears and your pride

keep your secrets safe inside

and when you’re exposed, all i’ll have left to say

is that you should stop fighting this war

no one is safe anymore

the blackmailer’s ballet

what’s going on, are you okay?

you’re in the battle but you’re losing the game

is something bothering you?

what can i do?

tell me what i can say to help me help you?

you’ll swallow your fears and your pride

your secrets aren’t safe inside

and when you’re exposed, all i’ll have left to say

you’ll be defeated in this war

no one is safe anymore

the blackmailer’s ballet

tell me how are you, are you good?

go with the flow but you’re just misunderstood

is something bothering you?

what can i do?

how can i change the rules to help me help you?

making you talk is my only goal

by now you should know i’m unstoppable

and when you’re exposed, all i’ll have left to say

is that this is merely a cold war

no one is safe anymore

the blackmailer’s ballet

have you given up; are you done?

go with the flow but you just can’t go along

what could be bothering you?

what can i do?

is it so difficult to help me help you?

you aren’t nearly as tough as you thought

second place might be your only shot

and when you’re exposed, all i’ll have left to say

the white flag won’t go up this war

no one is safe anymore

no one is safe anymore

with all your secrets, i will taunt

your poker face forever haunts

and when you’re exposed, all i’ll have left to say

is that you just lost an endless war

no one is safe anymore

the blackmailer’s ballet

this song was written for a musical a few friends and i wanted to write when we were in middle school! i hope i can turn it into an actual song someday, because i really love the melody i created for this.

Your poem is so good! It's probably my favorite poem I have read on this platform yet. I love the rhythm of your work!
