Under the spotlight
I stepped inside from the snowy linen street,
A guitar in hand and cold numb’d feet,
My hat in place and my moustache made,
I shook the snow off as I stumbled on stage.
The plates they clunked as the people turned to me,
They said play a song you fish of the sea,
Some booed some clapped as I adjusted the mic,
And I started the song, just me under the spotlight.
There was a howl and a rustle as the moon came up,
And the major chord brought the birds in the shrub,
The minor fall parted the clouds,
And the licks like fire, serene but loud.
The light strums brought the breeze and the still,
And the picking brought the music uphill,
The beats and loops were the cradling of the sea,
As the music drifted away with me.
The last resolve note was still ringing in air,
When I opened my senses to the heat in the lair,
Some booed some clapped as I took down the mic,
And I clunked off into the dark dusty night.
