Favorite Quote:
“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”
― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

He walked five thousand miles from home

Searching for a pot of gold

But the rainbow

Led him astray

Too far away

No path could lead him back

To where he belonged

A few years later when he turned away

From all the glory of fortune and fame

But the fire’s

Gone out in his heart

It’s far too late

No path could lead him back

To where he used to be

And there are so many mistakes

A man can make

At least he tried to walk away

And there’s only so much heartbreak

A life can take

At least he tried to walk away

Now he’s tired and old and gray

Trying to fix his past mistakes

And it could be

Far too late

To change his ways

No path could lead him back

To his long forgotten past

And though he knows he could never go back

It’s not too late to make others see

That it could be

Far too late

To change his ways

Still he’s trying to lead them back

To where they ought to be

The author's comments:

I was just thinking about a man who was lured in by money and fame and power, but as he grew old realized he needed to get away from all that. Now he's older and kinder than he used to be, and trying to help the next generation take a better path than he did.
