Sunshine Kid
sunshine kid,
all dressed up
in yellow
and brighter than
anything
you’ve ever seen
isn’t he
great?
isn’t he
so absolutely,
inconceivably
amazing?
look at him go,
look at him glow
like
the whole world is his—
(and if he wanted it,
it could be)
isn’t he
so fantastically,
astoundingly
incredible?
he’s
magnetic in the way
he moves
he’s better than you
without even trying
and when he tries,
you’d better watch out
because
that’s when you’ll feel it—
that special sort
of invisibility
like you’re fading
into the background
and they all want to know
how he got to be
so bright—
but he’ll never tell
‘cause he doesn’t even know
he was just born to be
a sun
