Winter Dawn
The cold air brushes against me
My face is numb
I can only feel my head resting on the pillow,
But my body is enveloped in a warm embrace
A blanket, no, two.
I can’t get out of bed.
Today I’m supposed to be doing something...
But I can’t remember. It’s too warm.
Outside is cold, but in here, in this pocket,
I am warm.
I reach out towards my nightstand;
My arms breaks free from the cocoon
The blizzard slips into my fortress
And my arm quickly retreats.
I can’t go outside--it’s too cold.
And so here I am,
Trapped in the comfort of my own bed
Unable to move
And unable to leave.
Jesus, it’s cold.
