Where I'm From
I’m from a whining baby that feel asleep...
to the abrupt sound of a tractor.
From horses where the money went…
I’m from sweaty dance clothes
and the adrenaline rush when my dance team arrived on stage…
I’m from cleancut, confidence, blue collar,
from Don and Bonnie…
I’m from help him and help her,
from “forever and always”...
and a daily reminder that “I will always love you.”
I’m from the welcoming sound of robins singing in the morning…
from the night silence where the mice whispered.
I’m from sun rise rides with Blake
when the crisp air bit at my nose…
I’m from midnight laughs about absolutely nothing with Izzy…
From the tears
because one boy didn’t love me like he said he did...
I’m from bright, blonde hair
and the deep blue eyes…
From being known as “shortie”
and wanting to be taller…
As I look through my camera roll, I see the memories.
Some old . . . some small . . .
some so far I can’t remember at all.
I’m from those moments, no matter how small…
