I am from comfort, rules, and expectations
I am from no tardies, no infractions, no calls home
I am from straight As
     Finishing my homework
     9 PM bedtime and 6 AM wakeup
I am from no “funny business”
     No sleepovers
     No drugs and alcohol
     No “you suck”s or “shut up”s
     No boyfriends until you’re 16

I am from constant restraint
I am from always yearning
     Adventure, freedom, and memories…

But why cage my free spirit any longer?

The one with the bubbling laugh

I love dance parties on Friday nights
     Jam sessions on the way to school
          Skype calls until 2 AM
               Midnight skinny dipping

I am free!
     From fear of disappointment.
