The Dreaded Hallway
An icy chill crawls through my bones,
As I step into the halls of dreadful stone.
I have to face my fears,
Do my best,
Not show my tears.
I hear a dong,
For school lunch has begun.
I smell greasy french fries,
And I'm pushed and shoved,
As if invisible air.
The laughter overwhelms my ears,
please, please don't stare.

My poem is about people judging me, for my clothing choices, for my decisions, for my life. I care too much about what other people think. At the beginning of the poem the person has a lot of hope and none at the end. My goal is for the reader be emotional impacted by the word choice and to consider how they act towards others. I take the reader through an emotional journey emphasizing how the speaker in the poem is lost and doesn’t notice the good things because they are too distracted by other people’s thoughts. Which kills the person in the poem in the end.
