Flash them a smile, tell them you're fine
Straighten your posture, then step in line
Your toes pointed and ready, your hair in a bow
It’s almost impossible to know
You aren’t quite what you seem
You glide across the stage in the dim light’s gleam
Pirouette here, arabesque there
All the while pretending you don’t care
The smile says you’re okay
You look fine, doing your ballet
But inside you’re screaming
Inside you’re dreaming
To fly like a bird
To finally be heard
Your shoes look nice with pointed toes and ribbon pleat
But everyone knows ballerinas have ugly feet
