For all time
I wondered what it meant,
The three words atop staring back at me.
Waiting, blankly on the crisp white piece of paper
Until I conjured up my best answer.
It meant forever, irrevocable and complete,
But what was true and incessant, I knew not.
What lies forth? What never fails to cease?
It is a riddle that guiles my mind into unease.
Then it struck, the answer like a lightning bolt.
What is for all time and never concludes,
Like the sun spinning around the Earth,
Beyond our control. It is us, is it not?
The most complex creatures in motion
Man holds a labyrinth of the unknown.
We take the passage through time, forever evolving.
What of us never ends? A difficult question no doubt.
Is it man’s nature? Maybe our curiosity?
The thriving urge to learn more.
Our plethora of imagination being the building blocks for the future.
For all time man’s flaws shall take place. It is inevitable.
It is man. Mistakes that will mold the concepts of peace and war.
The ideas of love and hate. Forever.
Man is responsible for the lives and deaths,
Of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
I may be wrong. Not even close to the truth.
It could be something else. Deep within us.
The impulsive drive to be present. Never absent.
Man is a writer. He pens his fate of the indefinite with blind certainty.
What keeps man going? The will to survive I believe.
The endless hours of practice during the tiring days of life
Despite life’s pangs of heat, cold, wind and more he tries,
At all times to see the rising sun of tomorrow.
We are complicated beings. Difficult to figure out.
Yet we are paper thin and predictable.
Our predictability is certain and will continue for all time.
Do we lead ourselves to what man is not prepared for?
It is a cycle of repetition with no end I suppose.
It begins thusly, man makes a decision and acts upon it,
A few years pass and he is regretful of his ways.
However the sequence does not rest but begins again and again.
My mind is knotted with this petty realization,
Of man’s peculiar yet candid aura. Is it just me?
Or are we just a very interesting bunch?
Filled with our tales of kings and queens,
Leaders, legends, rebels and saviours.
Lo and behold! There it is again. Another insight regarding our two legged subject.
It is clear as crystal, waiting to be found.
What has been and will be for all time.
Man is by definition the measure of all things.
The one who is bestowed with the knowledge to live, moreover to rule.
Is that where we make our first mistake?
We dominate all within our reach don’t we?
All that walk, swim, slither, fly and crawl on land, sea and sky.
We shun those we don’t accept and divide ourselves vainly.
Tyranny is a drunken lord and prejudice its loyal butler. Targeting,
Those a little different yet discounting their large same.
All these assumptions are slight, not strong as oak.
After all they too are the works of a mere man are they not?
Just as all else, from start to finish, a product by the dangerously creative.
How long is for all time exactly? I have no riposte.
Just as days’ turn into nights, all things must come to an end.
Likewise as this session concludes only one query remains.
We are mortal. Nothing but a speck of dust in a big, lonely domain.
Is Man in fact meant for all time?

Man is predictable. Life is unpredictable. Opposirtes attract. Are we really superior as we think we are?
