CHRISTMAS NIGHT
It's that time of the year again
A night echoing with merriment
A dance owed to cheerful carols
It's Christmas night!
Streets lined with giggly kids
Engaged in a snowball fight
The home experiences a reunion
Of names that strike individual memories tonight
A first car set from grandpa
Cookies stolen from grandma's baked goodies...
Perfumes of a distant aunt that makes the nose itch!
And uncle's brandy glasses that you broke playing ball
Mom's apprehensive advices and chiding
Daddy's nostalgic tales of won bouts
All within a small, yet growing mind
In the memory of a child.
The eyes see Holly and mistletoe
Decorations of all kinds...
There's streamers, balloons and twinkly lights
Best of all is what lies under the magnificent tree
Wrapped in paper, sitting pristine
On the hardwood floor
Amongst bells and glitter fine.
The table is laid
With roast chicken and wine
Crockery marked for special nights
And the light off the silverware catches your eye...
As you remain awaiting for Santa to come tonight!

I have always loved Christmas as a kid. Then it was because of the presents that I used to get, now it's the get-together that I'm thankful for. Maybe one day it'll be just because it's such a peaceful and happy time. But no matter the reasons I know that I'll continue to wait for the coming Christmas night.
