I liked to hold you
Because it made me feel strong
Like my fingers were immune to fire
Because I held your blazing mind
Like my mouth was full of venom
Because it’d touched your lips
I liked to speak to you
Because it made me feel powerful
Like your eyes held volumes of stories
That I could tell because I’d seen their words
Like your hand pressed against your mouth
Wasn’t a choke of silence, but a cloak of wisdom
I liked to hold you close
Because then I could say I’d held you
It wasn’t out of worship
It was out of pride
