"Life gave me cantaloupes....should I be concerned?"

Roses dripped from her wrists
Petals smacked the surface of a placid pool where she lay
Growing ripples out of languid seeds
On which insects spread their liquid wings.

Columbines poured from each fragrant slash
Sweet nectar made bait for abyssal beasts
Colossus and Leviathan scratching the scummed surface from below
Snapping frail lanky roots from which lilies grew.

Thistled demons circling the pool’s simple rim
Washing them onto the bank with each rippled reach
From concentric complexity to linear turf
They drowned on the land of frond covered beach.

Plump marigolds burst along overgrown cuts
Crusting in a chapped bouquet
Fighting to outgrow the savage scarlet weeds
Which stemmed from her fallow arteries.

Geraniums trickled into the foliage flooded bank
Imbibing sweet wine from her lips and cheeks
Their rhizomes snaked in tendrils across her face
Skin traced over with a hot velvet lace.

Snapdragons bit at her limbs and dark toes
Each passing stalk dragged her further below
Petals lapping at her stomach and gliding over shoulders
Green leaves rising to caress her slim neck
And when the sky nearly sunk out of sight
All she left was a lotus searching for light.
