Indifference
Indifference.
in•dif•fer•ence
noun
noun: indifference
lack of interest, concern, or sympathy.
I-N-D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-C-E
Indifference is the disease,
With a cherry on top,
Brightened up,
Sweetened up,
Made out to be good,
But causes hate,
That plagues this world.
lack of interest, concern, or sympathy.
Indifference comes to you,
With crossed fingers,
Appeals to you,
With crossed fingers,
Promises beauty,
With crossed fingers,
Draws you in,
With crossed fingers.
lack of interest, concern, or sympathy.
Indifference,
Not just the hate,
Not just the struggles,
Not just the destruction,
Not just the inhuman monstrosity,
Indifference,
Not just caused by oppressors,
But by those who stand by,
And watch the world,
With two blind eyes.
It isn’t happening to me,
Why help?
It can’t be that bad,
Why help?
I don’t know them,
Why help?
They have never helped me,
Why help?
Someone else can do it,
Why help?
Indifference is simple,
Almost subconscious,
An inflammation within you,
A disorder of the brain,
Ruining your life,
And the lives of others.
To help others,
Do the right thing,
Requires a little extra energy,
A little motivation,
A little urge,
To fight,
Against your indifference.
lack of interest, concern, or sympathy
Where were you when a little boy scraped his knee?
Where were you when someone dropped their books?
Where were you when she was called names?
Where were you when he was hit by his classmates?
Where were you when suicide was their only answer?
Where were you when the family didn’t have enough food?
Where were you when someone needed you most?
You can ask these questions,
But it doesn’t matter,
The damage is done,
Indifference will kill you,
Kindness will fuel you,
It is time to step out,
Do your part,
Forget about indifference,
AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

This piece is about the plagues of being indifferent. It was inspired after reading a speach by Elie Wiesel.
