We Found You
We Found You:
My poem was found,
Hiding in the shadows.
Keeping me company
While I hide in the lockers.
The stale air getting tense
As teachers walk by
Trying to find us.
I can hear the students,
“Why does she always sit in there?”
Their patronizing words make you smaller,
Cowering away you nudge me on.
Pad and pen ready stand
With the scent of the ink bleeding off of the paper,
All sounds stop
You find your way around
Ending on my small notebook.
Writing yourself I am invisible,
Both to you and to students.
No longer existent my poem is the only thing to hug me.
Then you show up.
You open the locker and take my hand.
“There’s no need to hide,
Take it in stride.”
My poem,
Discarded.
Forgotten about in your pocket.
Never read only written,
It’s new home is us.
