Dream
You looked at me differently today,
you stared at me and smiled, nodding your head left and right.
I kept my eyes locked on yours, not exactly sure what it meant,
if it meant anything.
The optimist within me was hoping that you were finally seeing me.
My insides were clenching at your attention.
You were so close; I wanted to grasp the fabric of your shirt in my hands,
to reassure myself that I hadn’t fallen asleep,
because every moment our eyes meet feels like a dream.

Sometimes you make eye contact with someone and it transports you to another dimension. you almost have to pinch yourself, just to make sure you aren't dreaming.
