The Little Mermaid
This story is a common one
the true version is not as overdone.
The beautiful Ariel’s true story
is not as happy, it does not earn as much glory.
The one you’ve heard is a meaningless lie about a mermaid with red hair,
and a villain that stashed her voice inside it’s evil lair.
They make her out to be such a saint.
But I’m here to tell you that no she ain’t.
The bit about Ariel falling in love with a Prince
Was not completely untrue, since
She was head over heels for that man
But unlike in that story he, did not see her in his life’s plan.
I however wanted to help this
Poor unfortunate little girl find some bliss.
She had a voice, but she was not so bright.
And often said things that gave everyone quite a fright.
And her manners were atrocious at best,
and the thoughts in her head always went unprocessed.
I gave her some gifts, for a good price I must add
I gave her legs, some sense and some manners she would never have had.
She had a chance to become a wife but it had a price
All that she had to give me was a small sacrifice.
The price was only her promise,
So I had to tell the prince she wasn't flawless.
She put in some effort, I will give her that,
but when it came down to it she was only a rat.
The prince fell for her charming words,
although it was she who told him they weren't hers.
What an ungrateful little girl! I had given her a chance!
It was not my fault she blabbed during their wedding dance!
This ending, though not romantic or fairytale at all,
was what this insignificant child deserved! A wake up call.
I punished her by taking away that red hair,
something many storytellers deem unfair.
They called into question, if she truly
deserved it or not. But this unruly
girl tested my patience. I am nothing if not fair.
It is not my fault if she decided to not pay the fare!
This story came to a close for this dear young brat.
She decided to become an old spinster and at
the bottom of the sea she spent out her life.
Alone and without ever becoming a wife.
Unlike Ariel I still parade on.
Despite the critics wishing I was gone.
However, I bet you wonder who I am
But that's another story, so I must tell you to scram.
