Where I’m From

I’m from the last of three little kids, always to be in their shadow
I’m from falling asleep in my parent’s bed and waking up in my room
I’m from a cul-de-sac full of kids who flock around the over grown tree in the center
From being happy that I walked to school with older kids
From a place where I always had someone to have gentle conversations and loud screams with
I’m from a family who always prioritize each other
I’m from a community where we would stay outside for hours on end without a care in the world
A community where our cul-de-sac was ours and nobody would be able to invade
I’m from a childhood of tons of yugioh cards with friends and playing for days and days
From a terrific trio of my brother, sister and I
A childhood where I always idolized my brother and my cousin that’s made me who I am
A household where my dad would play Christmas toons at random times of the year
I’m from a family where late night bowling was common
From summers spent at my cousins house enjoying a private pool
From an elementary school where I’ve met amazing people
From a house where hearing the door open made you excited
I’m from a childhood full of Gameboy and video games
A childhood where bikes, roller skates and scooters where always in sight
A neighborhood where we were protected from the outside world
I’m from a place where I was the youngest
From a place where neighbors moved away
A place where our sacred tree fell without notice
A place where every one of my friends grew-up before I did
A place where I had to walk to school alone
A place where my siblings got jobs
I’m from a home where I was always alone
I’m from a family where we slowly started cliques
I’m from a place where I was the youngest without anyone
I’m from a neighborhood where braking an arm made people stay inside
I’m from a trio that turned into a duo when my brother went to college
I’m from a neighborhood where strangers moved in and never interacted
From a family who like to talk behind others backs
From a family where I’m always compared to my siblings
From a family where I don’t talk about my life anymore
From a place that’s made me, me
