The Deer and I
Mountains graze the sky with a gentle hand,
the cloudless sky,
as blue as the depths of the ocean.
Snow covers the grand mountaintops year round,
marshmallow fluff,
the icing atop a birthday cake.
I stare at my own personal heaven,
stricken with awe
and the sound of whispering cascades.
As I’m walking through the dew covered grass
I spy a deer
entering the meadow with her young.
Her eyes acknowledge, but there is no fright.
Only a nod,
and her speckled fawn begins to graze.
We share this meadow, and we share this world.
No fear, no change,
just the still peace of the deer and I.
