Reality of a Fairytale
Her skin wasn't fair,
every mirror she passed reminded her.
She could barely remember all the compliments
long-time acquaintances offered lightly,
her brain claimed every word a lie,
she locked herself behind the bathroom door,
used untrimmed nails to pinch away
every single imperfection.
"Mirror, Mirror,"
the words tumbled from their tower.
She wouldn't become the evil queen
but she wished the mirror would say her name.
