Dancing on the Bridge
I dance.
On the edge,
the danger of falling into the depths of the river below
looms above me.
but still,
i am alone in the solace of my own mind,
no inhibitions or restraints,
i dance.
On the edge of the bridge.
on the railing of the path that holds you,
prevents you from leaving,
i dance.
not wanting to be with you,
not wanting to be against you,
i dance on the edge.
foot before foot,
arms like wings,
I am a bird, flying high
ignoring the resistance of the wind.
the wind cannot hold me.
this earth cannot bind me
i won’t let you.
i refuse to face my future in the present,
the past is no more than an unspoken memory.
hovering in purgatory for all eternity,
my fate.
Decisions are for the chained,
the ones without the tender kiss of freedom upon their lips.
but I;
I dance,
I slip my way through the chains,
priceless.
I am air.
the only thing man could never put a price on.
the only thing man could never control.
the wind, it sings for me,
the earth, it gives way for my weary feet.
and I,
why,
I never stop dancing.
