The Lady
She was small in stature
But she was someone of large importance.
One could see that by looking at her.
Dressed in a ballgown;
Chiffon, in rosy pink;
Straps, but not sleeves;
Pearl accents and jewelry;
White gloves, stopped at the elbow
Her eyes sparkled with interest in everything she saw
The extravagance, oh, the elegance!
The room lit with chandeliers -
The delicious food and gala atmosphere -
It was too much to take in.
Still, she took it in gracious and merry stride.
The people watched as she descended the steps,
In awe of her - they’d never seen her here!
All eyes on her:
A princess in a pink evening gown,
Regarding herself with humble, but astute, posture;
Speaking with a calm, yet passionate, tone.
She was new to the party, and, by her looks,
Ready to compete with all others
The Lady, they called her.
The Belle of the Ball.
