You and Me
Just yesterday it was little you and little me,
running through the park with big eyes and wide smiles.
Chasing one another, giggling until our bodies were filled with glee.
Shouting towards Mom to let us stay longer,
refusing to come down from those huge oak trees.
We ran into the shallow lake laughing and leaping,
catching those foolish tadpoles you wanted to free.
Making our forts under the kitchen table with morning slowly creeping.
Those breathless afternoons and movie nights,
soon had me wishing for you to never leave.
Divulging our unpleasant days and eating our favorite foods,
always talking about what we both wished to achieve.
Getting along while in our worst moods,
and wiping my tears with your torn sleeve.
Through our days of rolling down hills,
to your lame birthday parties on New Year’s Eve.
It’s always been just you and me.

It was a Friday night, and I was missing my brother. He's away at college and I often miss how things used to be between us. I hope when people read this, they feel a sense of nastalgia or a sense of home. I used to feel that same way around my brother, and I wanted to put that feeling into a poem.
