The Void
It began soft and silent, as we broke out
across the glass.
There ahead lay an ashen bay of water,
where the depths were infinite.
I sat at the tip of the vessel, gazing.
When all I yearned for was nothing worth
wanting at all now, I realize being a youth
was by far an easier task than being mature.
From behind, I felt a rumble, as the engine
picked up, and my heart began to quicken.
“Hold steady,” he said, a distant voice
from behind.
And as quickly as the bay lay silent,
it began to rock.
My fingers tightened, holding me down,
which kept me from the depths ahead.
The dawn air sent chills down my spine
as the vessel reached rougher waters.
I felt as we began to shake with waves.
How I longed it would stop, yet continue.
My arms stretched wide once the fear passed,
and I watched the beautiful world pass by me.
As I smiled back, he took the vessel faster,
and we sought the waves once more.
