my favorite new sneakers worn
by this petite person’s skinny ankles

my coat which is highly famous
for being worn only when
I go see my best friend

all my favorite fruits, pomegranates
and strawberries and plums
(though they are scarlet- a shade);
some flowers that I gave away
on the day before today;
the fire kindling in my soul
the chirpiness that you adore

Red is the colour of
Driving a new Maserati down
A dead-end street

Red is the colour of
the fur pillow that I hug ever so tightly
on days I can’t do naught but cry
Red is the colour of
my conscience, that tiny quirky voice
as he tells me to apologize

Red is the colour of
that little red-chest Robin who
Emily called hope: the thing with feathers
Ever-singing, Never-leaving

Red is the colour of
my words when they ring with truth
And discover perfection on their own
Red is the colour of
The utter ecstasy of seeing a smile
That I created

And red will be the door
to that home I see in my daydream
with a big bronze doorknocker
instead of a bell

And red will be the mailbox
where I’ll kneel to collect in my palm
Words from a faraway land


And although Meow says
that technically hearts are pink
I’m damn sure mine is red

Hey there Saphira, what's it like in 20-city? I'm a thousand miles away but all your poems sound just so pretty.. haha sorry, had to get that song out of my head. I love how the poem started on a rather light-hearted note and then gained more power while maintaining the same level of...uh.. bounce. Awesome, as always.
