Race Day
Pasta dinner the night before; there is never enough on the plate
Sound of the 4AM alarm; wishing there was another hour to sleep
The car ride could always be shorter
Don’t be late; coach will not be happy with you
It will be a good race; we will come out on top
The trailer is here; time to rig the boats
Don’t stay in the sun; go to the food tent and eat, drink, and sleep
Our other boats are coming down the course; cheer them on!
We’ve been wining races all day; don’t be the first to lose
It will be a good race; we will come out on top
Two hours till the race; time to stop eating
One hour till the race; better start warming up
Forty minutes till we race; time to launch and start race warmup
Five minutes and were off; pulling into starting docks
It will be a good race; we will come out on top
The officials get ready to start the race; “Four minutes”
“Two minutes;” get ready, we’re going soon; “One minute”
“Ready…Attention…Row!”
Now we go; it will hurt but well worth it
It will be a good race; we will come out on top
The coxswain is yelling; we start, sprint and settle down from
2k to 1700m, then sprint at 300m left
1000m down; 1000m to go; this is where your cardio,
strength and mentality are all pushed to the max; break your limits
300m left; time to sprint; we must hold our position if we are going to win
Very close race; evenly matched; down to the hundredth of a second; who won?
It was be a close race and one to remember; we barely came out on top

Assignment for school, although I still hope that people can get a connection to what it is like to be in a racing boat for crew or rowing, even without actually seeing it.
