Alone
Alone.
Alone.
I type it twice so
the word itself doesn’t
look
so lonely.
Drunk men invade
my quiet spot on the beach
I guess I’m not as
alone
as I thought.
Through blaring music and
girls in high heels laughing
and through cigarette smoke
and sour breathed attempts
at getting my name
when I’m
clearly
half their age.
A man I have ignored
believes he is entitled to my body
he throws a glass bottle into the ocean
I am watching
the splash makes me jump
I wish it was a flying fish returning home
maybe a fish is waiting for me to return home
I run to my hotel room
and rejoin a sleeping
family.
Still
I am Alone.
Alone.
