Ask me why I did it.
Ask me why I sat with her for hours.
Ask me why I got out of bed to go downstairs and check on her.
Ask me why I opened the door to her favorite bed in the closet downstairs.
Ask me why I promised to be there for her.
Ask me why my heart was ripping out of my chest.
Ask me why I felt I needed to go check on her again.
Ask me why I tucked her head back into her bed.
Ask me why I kissed her one last time.
Ask me why I looked out the window, up at the sky, and whispered "thank you".
Ask me why,
And I'll tell you.
She would have done the same for me.

This piece is about my best friend who passed away, Mindy. Although she is a cat, I truly feel that that does not take anything away from the friend that she is to me. Thank you for being my longest best friend, Mindy. Love you forever
