Hazel
The diamond days began to wither to give way to the truth,
on the cliff stood a fool with a heart of blue.
Given by birth the name Hazel she had almond eyes,
perched on the willow tree stood a hawk of aging time.
The hawk as bold as he could see a tired spirit.
He glanced aware upon his perch he was not alone,
along came a quiet soul.
A limp away from fractured time,
the hawk began to fly.
Without concern it simply heard the wind passing by,
upon the cliff stood the girl with hazel eyes.
She glimpsed the verdict and saw the stars,
the maze of broken hearts.
There she stood with wonder to see.
Upon its perch the hawk returned.
Gazing at the girl the hawk believed,
she was alike he.
The flight in her yearn will make her soar.
The hawk dove to the bird and glided beyond the cliff.
The girl so blue with hazel eyes
saw the creature glide
She took a breath and in despair
took wind with wings that were never there.

This poem is for all who are willing to soar
but who without concern
leave us without flight in our hearts
or wind in our spirit.
