Only so Much
Slipping like sand between my fingertips,
Time falls and is blown away.
Helplessly, I wish it could stop for just an instant,
Pause, break and breathe before is rushes along once again,
For there is only so much sunlight in the day,
Only so much moonlight at night.
But, day by day, the infinity-snake
Slips around us,
Between our fingers, through our hands
And forever moves,
Slithering its slippery scales
In endless circles we cannot see
Never to be touched, trapped or entangled.
An enemy to us,
We have only numbered days
And only so much to see,
So much to hear,
So much to touch
So much to taste
And smell
And feel.

Time is transient and limited. It is cruel, and enslaves and imprisons us as it progresses, and the only things we can do is let it pass.
