When I Saw You
When I saw you, my heart would pound,
It was difficult to calm down.
When I saw you, I would smile,
And it was impossible to frown.
When I saw you, my pulse did quicken,
The marching band rung in my ears.
When I saw you, my hands were clammy,
Upsetting you was my greatest fear.
When I saw you, I was nervous,
But it was you who made me calm.
When I saw you, and held your hands,
All of my worries were gone.
When I saw you, hugging me,
I felt my legs become weak.
When I saw you, returning home,
I was choked up and just couldn’t speak.
Now I see you, and my heart aches,
The damage has been done.
Now I see you, and I force a smile,
I’ll never make another one.
