Concrete Jungle
we danced through the night
when we should have been sleeping soundly,
not smoking cigarettes
and emptying bottles
in too-tight dresses
not meant for the innocent.
our parents turned an eye,
too focused on their own scandals
to get caught up in the childrens;
they made a phone call
when needed,
or donated
enough to solve the problem,
but then act surprised
when he took his life
off of a city skyscraper
built to survive
the toughest storms,
but couldn't hold the weight
of a lost childhood.
