A Sunday Spent in the Park
The day broke noon,
on the sunny Sunday.
Out came the sails.
Stopped by the anchor,
the sails as still as a statue.
The mothers, the fathers,
the boys, the girls, and the pets
all gathered at heart of the park.
BANG!
Goes the gun that begins the race.
The boats crawled across the water
as if they were large turtles.
As the day went longer,
the heat went higher.
At that moment the spectators
raised their decorative umbrellas
and hid under the shady trees.
On went the race.
Until the final second
there was conversation
between the crowd.
And then all of the sudden,
everyone was silent.
Who will win is up to you,
but I will say it won’t matter.
For it is not a boat that truly wins.
