I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. -J. R. R. Tolkien

It takes some demons down in the soul
Blood and guts and alcohol
Greyhounds in the mornin’ dew
Experiences both old and new

Needles, pain, blues and shame
Guilt and love for a virgin dame
Late nights on the cold hard streets
Anger, sadness, ripped up sheets

Inspiration comes with war
Fallin’ in love with a teenage whore
Somethin’ dark, somethin’ dreary
Somethin’ to make your eyes grow teary

Ego hidden in the words
Narcissism amongst the cords
Drinkin’ from my daddy’s bottle
Slow me down, take the throttle

I need a reason besides myself
Stacks of poems on the shelf
A mirror and a few notebooks
No muscle mass and nerdy looks

Tell my friends I don’t exist
I made it all up, I just couldn’t resist
Words are truly all I know
My wits are high but my life is low

Take a hammer, do me in
Before I choose to sin again
Characters at the cost of me
Who am I? What do you see?
I’m losin’ my identity

I’ve since stopped seein’ with clarity
Differences, reality

To me, it’s all a story.
