"I took a deep breath, and listened to the old brag of my heart: I am, I am, I am." - Sylvia Plath

With each day that passes
I get closer
To knowing
That I am not
Immune
I am not bullet proof

Things affect me
Things within
And the things without

And looking around
This town is so small
So minuscule in the
Proportions
Of the greater all around
But yet me and everything
I don’t have
Is stuck

I can’t stop the song calling
Me beyond
The borders of
This little village
Where one word
Is heard by all,
I must go with the call

But moving beyond
I can’t let go
Of the little things
Whispering
In the back of my mind
Of happy little memories

They and I
Even far away
They and you
And I see
The same sky

So maybe,
In the great and small
Scheme
We are closer than
We seem

This poem just came when I started thinking about some friends I have in other countries. We were close for awhile and then drifted away after a while. This poem kind of reflects my feeling towards them.
