When you're dead inside,
you need something--
or someone
to believe in.
So believe in yourself.

Because you are made
of something great--
something so...
incredible.
So believe in yourself.

You can accomplish
anything and
everything
if you just try.
So believe in yourself.

When your world falls down,
only you will
be there to
pick yourself back up.
So believe in yourself!

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by one of my favorite quotes: "When you need something to believe in, start with yourself." I am a very firm believer that the only way to succeed in life, is to believe in yourself. Because you will be the only one that will always be there for yourself. Yeah, when times are tough, our friends and family might be there for us, but there's no guarantee that they'll always be there. People change, friendships fade...that's life. But if we can find that inner strength...the strength to be able to cheer ourselves up when we're down, to pick ourselves back up when we fall, to love ourselves when no one else will...then we can accomplish anything, because we will always have something to fall back on, no matter what. I hope you guys really take this message to heart! Thanks for taking the time to read my poem!! :)

That's exactly my point haha! :) I used to rely on my friends quite a bit...a little too much, actually. I would get depressed and then lean entirely on them to cheer me up. I would have a lot of self-doubt and low self-esteem, so I'd rely on them to boost me up and tell me the things I wouldn't tell myself. But then it finally hit me, that if I wanted my life to improve, I would have to take control of my life. My friends aren't always going to be there for me, and neither is my family. The only person who will be there for me ever second of every day is me. I realized that I had so much more strength than I was giving myself credit for. And so I started believing in myself and relying on my inner strength to get me through tough times...and it has made such a difference in my life. Because I get to choose how life's challenges are going to affect me. But anyways...thank you soooo much for reading my poem and commenting on it! I do so love your comments! :D

I love this so much! The world really does need to rely on themselves a little bit. Because when it comes down to the foundations, you are the only person that never leaves. Great job Nightingale! CX
