Where My Heart Is
The dirt, an unforgotten feel to my feet
Years of running bare foot imprinted on the rough ground
Tree leaves wave, reminding me of days passed
Daisies dance and sway among the fields
Calm clarity flows over this place
As if painted here by an artist and his skillful hand
The kitchen that sweats in the summer heat
The living room with its decorations in the winter
Adorn with lights and joy
Down these halls, up in these rooms sits nothing of value
But still I see memories that will last
Good and bad
Ugly and pretty
Memories of a family all the same
Even when we are long gone
This place will never forget us
This dirt, this house, this land
Forever marked with our stamp of life
They are a part of us as we are apart them
This is my home

This poem is about the farm I’ve grown up on. No place on earth has ever held the amount of safety and security that I feel when I step on to this land. It has been passed down through the family for more than two-hundred years and no matter where I go or what happens this place never loses it’s touch. In light of some of the resent events in my family, I’ve realize it even though someday I will be gone but what I do and who I am will truly be lost. My family and my home will remember me forever.
