A Soldier and His Little Girl
He takes a stand, not only for America but for his little girl.
He knows he is going to miss her; he picks her up and gives her a whirl.
He hugs her tight and whispers ‘I’ll come back, my dear.’
She writes him every day and each one makes him shed a tear.
She sends her hugs, and she sends her love.
He traces the letter through his gloves.
He fights for his little girl; she’s been so strong.
He promised he would be back; now is not the time to prove himself wrong.
He shoots and hits; Lord, he doesn’t want to miss.
The more shots fired the closer he feels to sweet bliss.
The thought of seeing her and wrapping her in his arms is just such a sweet wish.
He just wants to be finished with all of this.
He gets to go home and he sees her smile.
That just made it all worthwhile.
He grabs his little girl and takes in the moment.
He squeezes her tight, to forget all his torment.
No words need to be spoken, but she gives it a try.
She looks at her daddy and whispers ‘don’t cry.’
