tired
the neighbors keep me up at night
my roommates in my head
the quiet murmur of everything left
unsaid
during the day.
my mom says I need sleep
but my brain says
I need to sweep
away the cobwebs during the day
so nights are not wasted
doing housekeeping for my lone tenant.
I stand up, walk around—
my brain forgets that cleaning’s required
and my body remembers what it’s like to be tired.
