This poem isn't about you
This poem isn’t about you
It’s about me
It’s about the things I’ve been through
Yet I’ve managed to somehow be free
Free of any pain
That used to anchor me down at sea
The waves crashing over me
Leaving me no room to breathe
I can’t say you did that
Maybe you did
But I think it was a mix of
Expectations
Realities
Scenes that played out in my head
This is about
How I’m standing in the sunlight
And I feel the warmth on my blushing skin
How happiness
Is here
In the now
And you aren’t
This is about
Playing loud music
In my car as I drive home at night
Not because I need it to fix
Something inside
But because I want to
Because I can finally hear something
Other than you in the words
This is me writing
Because I have a purpose
Not one driven by a person
But one spun from my own finger tips and the corners of my mind
This is a poem about
How I don’t owe these lines to anyone
How I only owe it to myself
To write
These words
That tore me down
Stitched me back up
And left me standing at this hill top
Ready for my new beginnings
