Inner Beauty
7/21/2013
I can linger in the voices but
I guess I always knew
That I have to find it inside myself
Because I won’t find it in you
A lifeless piece of glass
Hung up on the wall
You didn’t help me rise but
You watched the pieces fall
I learned that I won’t find it
Hidden in your mind or
In the softness of your words or
In your dark colored eyes
I won’t find it in a book
On the tallest dusty shelf
I won’t find it by another’s hand
I have to find it by myself
I won’t find it between breaths and
I won’t find it counting stars
I’ve been looking my whole life but
So far it’s only causing scars
Some don’t understand
How hard it can be
To live a life inside a body
When beauty isn’t what you see
You don’t understand yourself or
The heavy feelings in the dark
You don’t understand what went wrong or
How your monsters can leave marks
You see the cruel words that they say
Can lock the box without a key
Tie it to an anchor and sink it out at sea
Though it isn’t easy and I know it’s hard to find
It’s difficult but possible because
The ocean’s in your mind
