Upon Seeing Berthe Morisot's The Cradle
An angel veiled in purity and peace,
The whole of Beauty, Charm and Grace,
Singled into your perfect face,
Swaddled in white ivory lace.
As I sit in this wordless broken hearted room,
Remembering the haunting history of your father’s tomb,
A mirror of chaos; a remorseful soul,
May the earth give back what it stole.
May weeping eyes be concealed,
May benevolence and bliss be revealed,
May the heavens open a floodgate of hope and jubilee,
Brimming with love and life’s profound beauty.
As the setting sun bids farewell to the moon,
You’re cuddled up in your tiny cocoon.
I plant a kiss on top of your cheek,
So close your eyes and go to sleep.
